We are committed to taking care of all the details involved in providing the veteran in your life with deeply meaningful and honoring ceremonies. Erlewein Mortuary will complete applications and make arrangements for all veterans’ benefits for which you are eligible, which may include:
- Military Honors
- United States Burial Flag
- County Burial Benefit (typically $500 for Hancock County residents)
- Veteran's Memorial Marker or Headstone (several options available)
- Veteran's Marker/Headstone Benefit (typically $100 for Hancock County residents)
- Burial in a National Cemetery (Spouse and dependents may also be eligible)
- Cemetery opening and closing fees at a National Cemetery
- Federal Burial Benefit (Benefit amount varies; very limited eligibility)
- Presidential Memorial Certificate
- Governor's Memorial Certificate
We'll also personalize the casket hearse with specially designed emblems signifying the branch of service in which your loved one served and place a United States flag at the head of the casket during the gathering and service.

Who is Eligible?
In short, the veteran must have been honorably discharged. A more detailed list of those service men and women who may apply for and receive veterans' burial benefits, with full military honors if they choose would include:
- Military members on active duty or in the Selected Reserve
- Former military members who served on active duty and departed under conditions other than dishonorable
- Former military members who completed at least one term of enlistment or period of initial obligated service in the Selected Reserve and departed under conditions other than dishonorable
- Former military members discharged from the Selected Reserve due to a disability incurred or aggravated in the line of duty.
