Robert E. Waterman Sr.

NEW PALESTINE – Robert E. Waterman, Sr., age 77, of New Palestine, passed away at home with his family at his side on Saturday, August 8, 2020 in New Palestine. Born July 19, 1943 in Indianapolis, IN. He was the son of Roy E. and Ruby E. (Smart) Waterman. Bob graduated from New Palestine High School and married the late Wandie F. Cherry on May 26, 1967 at Zion Lutheran Church in New Palestine. Mr. Waterman served in the U.S. Air Force and worked at Western Electric and Ford Motor Co. where he retired in January of 2006. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, New Palestine. He loved fishing, camping, farming, his dogs, visiting friends, being with his family, and being around his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Surviving him are his children, Rob (Jennie) Waterman, Jr. and Melissa Waterman both of New Palestine; sibling, Brenda (Jim) Whitcomb of Brevard, North Carolina; grandchildren, Lacie (Austin) Ownbey, Mara (Todd) Welch, Becca Waterman, Austin Waterman-Gadis and Aleah Waterman-Gadis all of New Palestine; great-grandchildren, Carter, Marissa, Emma, and Baby Ownbey; many nieces and nephews, and several special friends, Cindy, Teresa, Brenda, Terry, and Teri. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wandie F. (Cherry) Waterman; son, Eddie Allen Waterman; and his parents, Roy and Ruby (Smart) Waterman. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 6513 W. 300 S., New Palestine IN 46163. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the church with viewing one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jason Taylor will be officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in New Palestine with military rites presented by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard. As a reminder, masks are required in public indoor spaces and please practice social distancing.
