Raymond Paxton

FISHERS – Raymond (Ray) Paxton passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025. He was born on October 4, 1927, the son of Paul and Ruth Paxton on the farm at McCordsville, Indiana. He grew up on the family farm during the great depression of the 1930's. His high school years were spent during World War II (1941-1945). He graduated from McCordsville High School in 1945 and then attended Manchester College for 1 Year. He married Barbara Lou Rodibaugh on Dec. 5, 1948. They moved to a farm north of Maxwell, where Ray milked cows, raised hogs, grew tomatoes, and farmed for 7 years. He worked at Allison's for 2 years as an engineering aide. He then worked at Eli Lilly research farm for 36 years. He continued to farm a little during these years. Barbara died, after a bout with cancer, on June 7, 1983. Ray married Lois Marie Pollard on April 25, 1987. They moved to the homeplace farm after Ray's dad died in 1993. There, they enjoyed serving the Lord, raising sheep, peacocks, guineas, and planting a big vegetable and flower garden, and enjoying God's great outdoors. They enjoyed visits from family and friends, and sharing their abundant garden produce with them. The Lord called Ray to serve Him when he was about 12 years old and he joined the Beech Grove Church of the Brethren. He attended several different churches during his lifetime. Ray loved the Lord, and looked forward to spending eternity with Him, not on his merits, but through the Lord's great mercy. Ray is survived by a son, Jim Paxton (Patty), daughters, Joyce Riegle (Rick) and Peggy Lambert (Danny); stepchildren, Sylvia Dailey, Julie Richardson (Kevin), and Chuck Pollard; multiple grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Barbara and Lois; brother, Bill; sisters, Jean Edwards, Donna Mattox, and Nila Jeffries; and stepdaughter, Sharrel Boike. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Thursday, June 5 from 4-7 pm at Erlewein Funeral Home, 1484 West US 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. Funeral Services will be Friday, June 6 beginning at 1:30 pm, with additional visitation from 12:00-1:30 pm prior to the service. Graveside services will follow the funeral service at Park Cemetery, 621 South State Street, Greenfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hancock County Food Pantry, P.O.
