Larry Christle

NEW PALESTINE – Larry Jo Christle, age 82, of New Palestine, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2022 at his home. He was born in Fargo, North Dakota on October 6, 1939 to Ruth (Rynerson) and Gaylord Christle. He graduated from Moorhead High School in Minnesota in 1958 and earned his degree from North Dakota State School of Science. He was a veteran of the Air National Guard. On June 12, 1963, Larry married Alice Jane Mehne in Loogootee, Indiana. He spent most of his career as a project manager at Pittsburgh Plate Glass. In addition, he was co-owner of JaLar Properties with his friend, Jack Thuer. Larry was a member of the New Palestine American Legion Post 182 and Cross of Grace Lutheran Church and served as a past president of the New Palestine Lion’s Club. He liked bowling, golfing and keeping up with local and world news. Throughout his life, Larry enjoyed traveling and took many trips all around the world including the Bahamas, Alaska, Aruba, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, a Mediterranean cruise, and most of the United States and its State Parks. For the last 33 years, he also enjoyed spending time on his boat “Lady Jane” at lakes in Indiana and Kentucky and got to take a special river trip with friends, Bob and Marcia Robertson, on their 30-foot boat from Evansville, Indiana to Destin, Florida. Lots of good memories were made boating especially at Lake Monroe. Larry was a sports fan and really loved IU Basketball and the Indianapolis Colts. He coached and supported the New Pal Youth League and rarely missed any baseball games his grandsons played in. Above all, Larry loved his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and made it an effort to keep in touch with out of state family. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Alice Jane Christle; son, Randall Christle; grandsons, Derek Higgins (Maggie) and Donovan Higgins (Amber); great-grandchildren, Trenton, Lily and Nolan; son-in-law, Doug Higgins; siblings, Marvin Christle (Gloria), Gaylord Christle (Carole), John Fortin and Jennie Harrison; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Kimberley Higgins. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cross of Grace Lutheran Church. 3519 S 600 W, New Palestine, IN 46163. A funeral service will be held at the church on Monday, September 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with viewing 1 hour prior to the service. Pastor Mark Havel will be officiating. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Larry’s favorite organizations - Wheeler Mission, American Legion Post 182 and Cross of Grace Lutheran Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
