Harriett B. McClarnon

GREENFIELD– Harriett B. McClarnon, age 98, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 21, 2008. Born on June 2, 1910, in Carthage, she was the daughter of John and Anna (Finney) Butler. She graduated from Center High School in Rush County and went on to earn her Associates Degree from Indiana Business College. Harriett married Robert McClarnon on February 28, 1932, in Indianapolis. She worked as a bookkeeper, was formerly the Executive Director of the Hancock County Tuberculosis Association, and retired from the Hancock County Highway Department in 1968. Mrs. McClarnon was a member of the Charlottesville UMC, Nameless Creek Literary Club, and the Hancock County Democrats. She was also a member of the Indiana Angus Auxiliary, the Indiana Angus Association, the American Angus Association, the American Angus Auxiliary, and the Hancock County Cattlemen’s Association. In her free time she enjoyed sewing, baking pies, and traveling. Harriett enjoyed her family and the Registered Angus Cattle Operation of which she was a partner, McClarnon Stock Farm. The farm was a recipient of the State of Indiana Hoosier Homestead Award. Harriett also received the Distinguished Pioneer Breeder Award from the American Angus Hall of Fame and was a recipient of the Vera Sherbahn Angus Auxiliary Award. McClarnon Stock Farm also received the Indiana Angus Family of the Year Award. Surviving are her daughter, Judy (Keith) Brown of Greenfield; granddaughters, Julia (Chris) Wickard of Greenfield and Jamie (Jeremy) Lowes of Greenfield; and great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Jacob Wickard and Kaitlyn Lowes. Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Anna Butler; husband, Robert McClarnon in 1946; and son, James “Jim” McClarnon in 1999. Visitation will be Sunday, August 24, 2008, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will be on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Debbie Beason officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
