Hugh John Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

GREENFIELD – Hugh E. John, age 88, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022. Born on November 25, 1933, in Shelby County, he was the son of George B. John and Geraldine (Phares) John. He graduated from Morristown High School in 1952. Hugh served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On October 19, 1954, he married Virginia Lou Brown in New Palestine. Before retiring in 1993, Hugh worked for Eli Lilly as a technician for 32 years. He was a member at Greenfield Christian Church. Hugh is survived by his children, Michael John (Dee) of Greenfield and Gail Levering (Rich) of Greenfield; grandchildren, Jeremy, Carrie (Jeremy), Jonathan (Samantha) and Joshua (Deena); 4 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Hayden, Wyatt, and Gatlin; and brothers, David John (Judy) of Franklin and Donald John (Betty) of Shelbyville. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Geraldine; wife, Virginia John; grandson, Joseph Levering; sisters, Phyllis Banks and Martha Marler; and brothers, Fred and Lowell John. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at the mortuary on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Merlyn Winters officiating. Burial will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
