William Edward Phillips III

GREENFIELD – William “Will” Edward Phillips III, age 32, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2010. Born on October 5, 1977, in Elwood, Indiana, he was the son of William Edward and Shirley Ann Phillips. Will graduated from Elwood Community High School in 1996. Will served in the Marine Corps from 1996-2000 in the 1st Batallion 7th Marine Division “Suicide Charley”. He married Lesley A. Clark on April 24, 2004, in Greenfield, and graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Class 05-163. Mr. Phillips served as a Police Officer with the City of Greenfield where he served on the Bike Patrol and the SWAT team. He had previously served as a Police Officer with the City of McCordsville. Will was a member of the Laborers & Hod Carriers Local #120 and a member of Local FOP Lodge #140. He attended Realife Church in Greenfield. He loved hunting, camping, woodworking, and being outside with his boys. Surviving him are his wife, Lesley A. (Clark) Phillips of Greenfield; children, Gavin E. and Bryson O. Phillips of Greenfield; parents, William E. and Shirley A. Phillips of Greenfield; sisters, Tyra L. (Paul) Glotzbach of Elwood and Brandy A. Phillips of Greenfield; nephews, Zek Phillips and Blake Hendrix; grandmothers, Annie Phillips and Mary R. Cline, both of Elwood; and in-laws, Norman R. and Peggy A. Clark of Greenfield. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Edward Phillips. Visitation will be on Monday, October 4, 2010, from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Greenfield Central High School, 810 N. Broadway, Greenfield, Indiana, 46140. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the school. Pastor Adam Detamore will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Memorial contributions in memory of Will may be made to the Gavin and Bryson Phillips Scholarship Fund, c/o Greenfield Banking Company, 1920 North State St., Greenfield, Indiana, 46140.
