Wayne Wood

MORRISTOWN – Harold Wayne Wood, known to most as Wayne, age 94, of Morristown, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023. Born on June 2, 1929, in Fountaintown, Indiana, he was the son of Carroll Edgar Wood and Iris (Boring) Wood. Wayne graduated from Morristown Jr. Sr. High School with the class of 1947. On July 23, 1949, he married Martha M. (Talbert) in Morristown. Wayne proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1956 and received the National Defense Medal. In his early years of working, he worked for Banquet as a milk truck driver. Wayne then spent time working at Moorman Feed as a salesman. He ended his working career with Chrysler, where he worked for over 31 years and retired in 1994. Wayne was a member at Morristown Methodist Church, Morristown Masonic Lodge and the UAW #371. He was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on the Morristown Yellow Jackets. Wayne also enjoyed rooting for IU and keeping up with NASCAR. He is survived by his sons, Rick Wood and David (Sherrie) Wood both of Morristown; five grandchildren, Sara (Cliff) Potter of Morristown, Miranda Wood of Finly, Alyssa Wood of Morristown, Travis (Katie) Wood of Dacula, GA, and Samantha (Luis) Cortes of Tampa, FL; great-grandchildren, Alice and Parker Wood of Dacula GA; brother, John (Sue) Wood of Charlestown, IN; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Wood of South Bend; and his beloved Kitty Kat. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Iris Wood; wife, Martha Wood; and brothers, Marvin and Keith Wood. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at the mortuary on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
