Tommy Batt

FORTVILLE – Tommy Lee Batt, age 78, passed away on December 14, 2024 at his home in Fortville. He was born September 21, 1946 to John and Alletta (Jean) Batt and was the oldest of four boys. He graduated from West Washington High School, Campbellsburg, Indiana in 1964. He then attended Purdue University, where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Animal Sciences. During his time at Purdue, he was a Herdsman at the Beef Unit, while working on his Masters in addition to being on the Animal Science softball team. Later he married his high school sweetheart Janet (Rosenbaum) on January 27, 1968. After his graduation from Purdue, Tommy worked in the seed business. He was then blessed to open his own business and was the proud owner of Batt Welding of Fortville, Indiana. He was diverse in his knowledge, skillset, and abilities. He loved teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchild about his passions of hunting, fishing, gardening, and welding. Tommy also donated his time to teach many Hancock County school students how to weld; with many using those skills to compete in the FFA welding CDE contest. Another passion of his was gardening, which he enjoyed spending time with his family from planting to harvesting. When Tommy was not welding or gardening, he could be found out in the woods hunting, or fishing. He also trained several of his own bird dogs throughout the years, taking many of his friends and family with him to hunt quail and pheasants. Tommy was also a devoted and long-time member of the Masons for over fifty years. He is survived by his wife, Janet of Fortville, Indiana; children, Cathy (Bruce) Logan of Carthage and Michael Sr. (Windy White) of Greenfield, Indiana; four grandchildren, Caitlin (Ty Jester), Michael Jr., Celysta, and Vivienne; and one great-grandchild, Eleanor Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents and youngest brother. Visitation will take place Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140, with Masonic Rights to begin at 4:00 p.m. There will be a private family burial. In honor of Tommy’s giving spirit, the family strongly requests donations be made, rather than sending flowers. Memorial contributions may be made by mail to either FUSE Inc. at 312 E.
