Susan "Sue" Reed

GREENFIELD-Susan “Sue” Lee Hendershot Huff Reed, age 61, lost her final battle against cancer on February 16, 2010. Sue was the oldest child of Barbara Ann (Swikard/Clark) and Fred Hendershot Jr. and was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on October 30, 1948. She grew up in Mount Prospect, Ill, moved to Seville, Spain for 18 months and the rest of her life was spent living in Indianapolis and Greenfield, IN. Susan is survived by her loving husband, Harold D. Reed, her two loving children Derek E. Huff and Kendra P. Leny, and she was proud to be the “earth mom” to Teresa L. (J.R.) Reed Lynch and mother-in-law to Dana L Huff. Also surviving Sue are her grandchildren, Jakob Leny, Julianna Leny, Rachel Lynch, Cooper Huff, Harley Adams and Michael Adams. She is also survived by her father, Fred Hendershot Jr., sisters Karla (Mike) Teafoe, and Janet Hendershot; brothers Kurt (Sandy) Hendershot, Mark (Chris) Hendershot, all of Illinois, and Lance (Courtney) Hendershot of Arizona, as well as seven nieces and nephews. Additionally Sue is survived by her step family of two children, six grandchildren and three great children; her aunt, Barbara Jean Hendershot. Sue enjoyed Square dancing, Round dancing, and all forms of crafts – including having her own stained glass business after taking an early retirement from the Federal Government service (Naval Avionics and Finance Center). She loved to travel and was fortunate to have been able to visit many places in America and overseas. But most of all she loved her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the loves of her life. She was “Mamaw Choo-Choo” because when her oldest grandchild first learned to talk he said he wanted to go to Mamaw’s with the choo-choo. Sue was preceded in death by her mother Barbara Ann (Swikard) Hendershot. Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 18, 2010, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Sue asked that although she loved flowers she would prefer you’d donate to the Susan L Reed fund (www.susanlreed.org) which was set up in her name to grant wishes to other stage IV cancer patients. A donation to the fund would have made her very happy. And as she always said, “Hug a loved one”.
