Sara Waits

Sara Marie Waits passed away on December 30, 2021, at the age of 58 after a courageous, 13-year battle with Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia. Born on September 4, 1963, in Indianapolis Indiana, Sara graduate from Triton Central in Fairland Indiana in 1982, earned her Associates in Business from Indiana Wesleyan and enjoyed a successful 35-year career as a Project Manager and Service Executive at AT&T before retiring in 2019 after supporting some of the corporation’s largest customers. Outside of her professional success, Sara had an uncanny ability to make the most out of every single day. With boundless energy and a thirst for life, Sara always had a new hobby to master, someplace new to explore and a few new friends to make along the way. Whether off-roading in Colorado or Utah with her husband, hiking the Appalachian trail with close friends or exploring local trails with her grandchildren, Sara was always up for an adventure. When Sara wasn’t out exploring, she could be found tending her garden, caring for her chickens and bees, creating something new in her workshop, mastering photography, playing guitar or getting lost in a favorite novel. Preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Edward “Ed” Reed, Sara leaves behind her mother, Mary Jean Criss (Hastings); her beloved husband of 33 years, Kreg Waits; her son, Dustin Wiley; two daughters, Michelle Davis (Waits) and Ali Wuensch (Waits); her four grandchildren, Alexa, Sydney, Max and Maddie; as well as many other family members, dear friends, and her mischievous dog Doc. Because Sara celebrated life, no formal funeral service is being planned, instead she will be honored with a celebration of life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to International Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation. IWMF provides services to support those afflicted by WM and funds the research that will lead to better treatments and a cure for this rare disease.
