Ross Johns

INDIANAPOLIS – Ross D. Johns, 98, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully holding his son’s hand on Monday, November 27, 2023, in Bedford. He was born the son of Raymond and Orpha (Henry) Johns on November 20, 1925, in Clymer, PA. He married T. Louise Howell on August 12, 1946, in Franklin, Kentucky. Following high school, he served in WWII with the Navy, and after the war was a self-employed carpenter. His later years of life were spent taking care of his lifelong companion and wife in their home until it was time for her to be called home. Ross was a member of the First Baptist Church and American Legion, both in Beech Grove. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He was a family man and a wonderful example of how a great-grandfather, grandfather, father, husband, friend, and citizen should act, carrying the highest integrity and work ethic without need of praise or recognition. Mr. Johns is survived by: his daughter, Sharon M. Mudder (Terry) of Olive Branch, Mississippi, his son, Daniel R. Johns of Bedford, daughter-in-law, Nancy L. Johns of Greenfield; grandchildren, Rachel Mudder, Tim Mudder, Natasha Johns, Ross Johns (Elizabeth), Lauri Shannon (Mark), Melissa Woolard (Jimmie), great-grandchildren, Jaclyn Renee Marshall, Michael Ray Bagshaw, Summer Renee Terry, Briana Martinez, Samuel Martinez, Micah Mudder, Kingston Johns Schmidt, Bryson Johns Schmidt, Beckham Johns Schmidt, Elliott Shannon, Connor Shannon, Bradley Woolard, Zachary Woolard, Noah Woolard, great-great grandchildren Kylee Marshall, Cameron Marshall, Kaleb James Marshall, Michael Ray Bagshaw, II. and Naomi Alaia Ramirez, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, James Robert Johns, grandchildren, Jill Renee Walling and Bradley Harris. Visitation and funeral service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Fountaintown Cemetery in Fountaintown, Indiana.
