Richard A. Stevens

NEW PALESTINE - Richard A. Stevens, age 75, of New Palestine, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017 at his home. He was born on November 28, 1941 as the son of Harold Stevens and Mabel (Henry) Armstrong. He graduated from Marion-Franklin High School, in Columbus, Ohio in 1959; immediately joining the United States Marine Corps. He married Phyllis (Brown) on May 9, 2001. He started his career with Pennsylvania Railroad in 1966, and retired from CSX in 2005 as a locomotive engineer. Mr. Stevens was a life member of the Marine Corps League, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, a member of AMVETS, and a 39-year member of the American Legion of Waverly, Ohio. He also loved fresh and salt water fishing, traveling, camping, boating, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye Fan. Richard is survived by his wife, Phyllis Stevens of New Palestine, IN; sons, Sean (Vicki) Stevens of London, OH, Scott Stevens of Columbus, OH, and Richard (Robin) Stevens of Columbus, OH; daughters, Stephanie (Miles) Greenford of Thurso, Scotland and Mandy (Dale) Sines of Cedar Park, TX; Stepsons, Paul Brown of Morristown, Tim (Lisa) Brown of Whiteland, IN, and Eric (Rebecca) Brown of Greenfield; stepdaughter, Bridgette (Michael) Johnson of New Albany, IN; brother, Chuck (Kathy) Armstrong of Columbus, OH; special nephews, Jeff and Tracy Noble both of Waverly, OH; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Stevens and Mabel Armstrong; sister, Donna Noble; stepfather, Charles Armstrong; and granddaughter, Ashley Stevens. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Chaplin Katherine Murray will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield with full military rites presented by the Greenfield Veteran’s Honor Guard.
