Richard "Dick" M. Hill

FOUNTAINTOWN – Richard M. “Dick” Hill, age 84, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at his home in Fountaintown. Born on March 24, 1925, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Herbert R. and Dolores (Billman) Hill. He moved to Shelby County in 1953 and married Betty Jane (Wilson) Hill in July of 1956. Dick graduated from Shortridge High School in 1954 where he was active in the Swing Band, newspaper, and the ROTC. He received a BS from Indiana University in 1947 and an MBA in 1949. Dick worked for various employers over the years. Throughout high school, he was employed as an Engineer with WISH Radio and WIRE. He also worked as a sorting clerk for the USPS, a correspondent for the Indianapolis News, for the Indiana State Fair, and as an instructor of Business Courses at Butler University. He also worked for American Airlines which is where he met his wife, Betty. Dick retired from the Indiana National Bank after 27 years of Employment as a Commercial Loan Officer and Accounting Officer. Dick’s professional achievements include being elected to two terms on the Shelby Eastern School Board, serving on the Blue River Vocational Technical School Board, serving on the Van Buren Township Advisory Board, and serving as Treasurer of the Society of the Indiana Pioneers. He was a member of the Indianapolis chapter of the Masons, the Scottish Rite, the Society of the Indiana Pioneers, and the Shelby County Republican club where he earned the Appreciation Award in 2003. Surviving him are his daughter and son in law, Barbara Hill-Kidd and Mike Kidd, both of Fountaintown; and granddogs, Butkus and Three. He is also survived by special friends and caregivers, Jim and Nancy Thurman, Jill Case and Jack, Christine Case, Anna and Hudson, and Regina Morgan. There will be no services.
