Margaret Nelson

GREENFIELD – Margaret (Furman) Nelson, age 89, of Greenfield, formerly of Indianapolis, IN and Weatherford, OK, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on March 6, 1931 to Andrew and Anna (Glaser) Furman. She graduated from Kenmore-Garfield High School in 1949 in Akron, OH and received her associates degree from University of Indianapolis in 1972. Margaret married James O. Nelson on July 5, 1981 in Indianapolis. She was a beautician for many years in Indianapolis. Margaret was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Greenfield. She loved spending time with her family and her service dog, Hayden. In her later years Margaret enjoyed crocheting, making blankets, and watching the news. Margaret is survived by her children, Jeanne (Mike) Watkins of Center Grove, IN, Marla (Ron) Russ of Hydro, Oklahoma, Karen Wade of Indianapolis, and Edward (Darlene) Wade of Greenfield; 10 grandchildren, Patrick and Christopher Watkins, Elizabeth Janning, Michael Russ, Zachary Baxter, Jessyka Earl, Gabrielle Naile, Andrew Wade, Kyle Wade, and Matthew Barksdale; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Anna Furman; husband, James Nelson; and eight siblings. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 8, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 519 Jefferson Blvd, Greenfield, IN 46140. Additional services will be held in Oklahoma. Burial will take place at Holy Family Cemetery in Canute, Oklahoma. As a reminder, the government mandate requires guests to wear masks when inside our building. We must limit the number of guests at a time and please practice social distancing.
