Lucy Parish

GREENFIELD – Lucille Ann (Hendrickson) Parish, was a child of God’s and was called home to rest peacefully on Friday, May 6, 2022. Lucy was 81 years old, and resided in Greenfield, Indiana. She was born on October 24, 1940, in Indianapolis, and was the daughter of Martha (Basso) and Albert Hendrickson Sr. She graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1958. Lucy married Richard “Dick” Parish on July 25, 1958 in Indianapolis and had a great love affair for 63 years. The love she and Dick shared was like no other and was admired by all who knew them. They married at a young age and never looked back! Dick loved her and took care of her always. Chivalry always existed in their marriage. Their love for each other was worn in their smile and within their eyes for each other. When apart, they called each other first thing each morning, throughout the day, and before they went to bed to express their love for one another. They loved to travel, watch movies, play games, spend time with family, and dance the night away with each other. In fact, they were known to be the first and last ones on the dance floor. For many years, she worked as a realtor at Parish Realty. Lucy was a parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish. She enjoyed celebrating holidays with her family, watching Hallmark movies, baking her famous brownies and cookies, chatting over a cup of coffee, crocheting, quilting, reading, gardening, and playing games (she was known to play a mean game of Gin Rummy). She was also an avid shopper. Her love of quilting was passed down from her grandmother. Every quilt square was sewn with copious amounts of love. Lucy was famous for her crocheting abilities and made several afghans throughout her lifetime. She also was notorious for crocheting hand-made goodies for everyone’s stockings at Christmas. In fact, she loved all holidays, but especially Christmas. Lucy’s Christmas spirit was contagious as a result of her abundance of decorations, sweat shirts, sweaters, dishes, outside lights and snowmen, and giving and receiving Christmas gifts. Indeed, she was a Christmas angel. Lucy never let any of her health issues stand in the way of her life. She never felt sorry for herself and was thankful for every day. God is good! She was a warrior and a pillar of strength. She carved a path like no other showing everyone who knew her that family was first and foremost. She was the kindest and most gentle wife, mother, and mamaw. She gave long hugs, warm smiles and always expressed her love for her family and friends. Her heart was huge, but she always found a way to love more. Although Lucy bragged on her children and loved them beyond measure, her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She went to countless volleyball, football, softball, soccer, hockey and lacrosse games. She was her grandchildren’s biggest and maybe loudest fan! She had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren. Although she was brave and conquered two previous strokes, this latest one was more than her sweet body could handle. She fought the good fight. Her gentle soul will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Besides being welcomed and embraced by all her loved ones who predeceased her, I’m sure her beloved pet dog Reggie was thrilled to see her and to once again receive a treat! Lucy is survived by her loving husband Dick Parish of Greenfield; children, Teresa Rizzo of Indianapolis, David Parish (Wendy) of Greenfield, and Julianne Hardig (Ed) of Granger; grandchildren, Jessica Burke (Adam) of Carmel, Jordan Rizzo (Stephanie Smith) of Fishers, Brianne Rizzo (Will Jones) of Greenwood, Morgan Thomas (Brandon) of Greenfield, Madison Parish of Greenfield, and Grace and Lucy Hardig of Granger; great-grandchild, Brynnley Thomas, Lilah Campbell Jones, and another great-grandson on the way; siblings, Steve Hendrickson of New Richmond, OH and Joanne Stone (Fred) of Martinsville; sister-in-law, Ginny Matthews (Tom) of New Palestine and; special niece, Sherri Schouten (Phil) of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Martha Brewner; and brother, Albert Hendrickson Jr. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 5333 Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46219. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at noon with Father Rick Ginther officiating and Father Steve Lacroix concelebrating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
