Karen Jeffries

GREENFIELD – Karen A. (Hammer) Jeffries entered into her heavenly reward on Saturday, February 15, 2025. She passed at the Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond, Kentucky. She was surrounded by her family. Karen was born on July 17, 1966 in Greenfield, Indiana at the Hancock Memorial Hospital. She was the sixth child born to the family of Chester A. Hammer and Joann (Smith) Hammer. Karen was born a twin with her sister, Kathy. Karen was raised on the small family farm near Shirley in Hancock County, Indiana. She attended all twelve years at Eastern Hancock Schools. After she graduated in 1984, Karen attended and graduated from Ball State University in 1988 with a BS in Accounting. That summer, on Saturday, July 23, 1988 she married Brian Jeffries. Karen had previously worked at Service Supply, Salli Mae, Eastern Hancock Elementary School, Blair Prigg Accounting Service and in the Accounts Payable Department at the Ivy Tech Community College main campus. Karen and Brian had two children, Ashley and Emily. Karen was a member of the Park Chapel Christian Church and had previously been a member of the Shiloh Christian Church. Karen loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending her free time talking and visiting with them. She loved to travel. She went on several “sister” trips with her two sisters and annual friend trips with her and Brian’s closest friends, Mary and Phil Jessup and Sandi and Greg DeWitt. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Joann Hammer; brother, Rick Hammer; and brother-in-law, John Hancock. Family left to mourn her loss is her husband, Brian Jeffries; daughters, Ashley Jeffries (Brady Bostic) and Emily (Austin) Bowling; grandchildren, Olivia, Beau, and Levi; brothers, Richard and Jeffery Hammer; sisters, Teresa Hester and Kathy Hancock; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Reverend Russel L. Jarvis will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Indiana.
