John O. Ellingwood

PENDLETON – John O. Ellingwood, age 92, of Pendleton, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016. He was born on January 25, 1924 in Pendleton as the son of Ernest and Bessie Ellingwood. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1942. He married Jhon Kay Ellingwood. He worked for Green Township and South Madison county school district as a bus driver for 15 years. He was a farmer for 50 years before he retired. Mr. Ellingwood was a past master of Fortville Lodge #207, a worthy patron of Eastern Star, a board member on the Fall Creek regional waste district and Skyeloch Villas Association in Dunedin, FL. He served two terms with Green Township as a trustee. John was on the Gravel Lawn Cemetery Board for 35 years. He attended East 91st Street Church in Indianapolis. Mr. Ellingwood was a member of Fortville Christian Church. John is survived by his wife, Jhon Kay (Tinkle) Ellingwood of Pendleton; sons, John O. (Sharon) Ellingwood II and Samuel E. (Vicki) Ellingwood; grandson, Samuel (Christy) Ellingwood of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Alyssa Ellingwood of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, William O. Ellingwood, Margaret L. Ellingwood, Emily E. Ellingwood and Kolton R. Miller; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Diane Ellingwood; parents, Ernest and Bessie Ellingwood; and sisters, Frances A. Douglas and Beatrice E. Jones. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 124 E. Staat St., Fortville, IN 46040. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, 9088 W. 1025 S., Fortville, IN 46040. Burial will follow the service. Pastor David Faust will be officiating.
