John Byers

GREENFIELD – John Michael Byers, age 40 of Greenfield, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022 in Indianapolis. He was born on February 15, 1982 to Gilbert (Gene) and Cheryl Sue (Mayberry) Byers. John graduated from Greenfield-Central High School in 2000 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served from 2001-2005. John is survived by his parents mentioned above; brothers, Chris (Katrina) Byers of Greenfield; Matt (Angela) Byers of Avon; nephew and nieces: Kyle (Jessie) Byers; Korah (Devren) Miller; Paige Byers and Sydney Byers; great nephew: Trayce Miller; and dog, Sugar. John is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gilbert & Helen Byers; maternal grandfather, Marvin Mayberry; maternal grandmother: Anna (James) Papageorge; and dog, Layla. John loved riding his motorcycle and it is hard to accept right now, but one day we hope to find comfort knowing he died doing something he loved. Anyone that knew John, knew that he lived his life to the fullest. In his 40 years, he did more things and saw more places than most will in a lifetime. He made a deep impact on everyone in his life. Words can't begin to express how much he will be missed. Many people have reached out asking what they can do in our time of grief. If John were here, he would say something like "stop talking about all the shit you want to do in life, get off your ass, and go do it." So, if you really want to help the Byers family, go do something fun, do it with someone you love, and remember John when you're doing it. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US HWY 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Pastor Tommy Hensley will be officiating. Burial with military honors rendered by the U.S. Marines and Greenfield Veteran’s Honor Guard will follow the service at Park Cemetery, 621 S. State St., Greenfield, IN 46140.
