Joel A. Young

GREENFIELD – Joel Andrew Young, age 27, passed away at his home on April 17, 2010. Joel was born in Muncie, Indiana, on December 2, 1982, to Jeffry and Belinda (Stultz) Young, who survive. Joel was a 2001 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School where he was a co-captain of the Men’s soccer team and was involved in 4 regional championships. Joel graduated from IUPUI with a BS degree in 2007. Joel touched many lives in his short life. He was employed by Special Services Johnson County Schools in Franklin, Indiana, as a Behavior Coach for students with emotional difficulties. Mr. Joel, as the children called him, worked to shape children’s behaviors in school. He thoroughly enjoyed each child’s challenges and professionally loved each one of them. He purchased items such as clothes, prizes, and a bicycle for a child for Christmas. He often spoke about the children, their challenges, and was very excited about their successes. He was well liked by all of his colleagues at Special Services and was grateful that he was given the opportunity to be part of the team. He was always worried about his students and wanted all children to be treated with dignity and to be loved no matter who they were or where they came from. Joel was an outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, and camp. He is the grandson of Jack and Jackie Stultz of Fortville, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lloyd and Catherine Young of Hobart; and his uncle, Ric Young of Dayton, Texas. Joel was very proud of his Uncle Ric’s military honors. He is survived by his parents; his much loved sister, Kameron E. Young; his brother, Adam J. Young, who was Joel’s best friend; aunts and uncles, Larry and Linda Young of Portage, Earlene Young of Dayton, Texas, Jeff and Beckey Sietsma of Fortville, and Todd and Bambi Jones of Zionsville; his cousins, Casi and Kirby Durham, Michael and Bridget McQuade, Laura McQuade, Carrie Sietsma, Cory Sietsma, Christie Sietsma, Linda Ann Young, Alan Young, John Young, Kevin Young, Mark Young, Rickey Young, Keith Young, Greg Young, Mary Ann White, Bill Belanger, Terry Belanger; and their families. Joel was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Fortville. Calling will be at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. Father Joe Pesola will officiate the Celebration of the Mass and Joel’s life on Thursday, April 22, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, located at 519 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield, Indiana, 46140. Interment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, it would be Joel and his family’s wish that donations be made to Prevention of Child Abuse Programs, Special Services Johnson County Schools Alternative education programs, or to the Mt. Vernon Community Education Foundation. It was his wish that children have a chance for success and have good lives. Joel loved his family, his friends, and the Lord.
