Jewel Sims

GREENWOOD – Jewel Kay Sims, 79 of Greenwood, passed away on April 30, 2025, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on April 20, 1946, in Indianapolis, IN to the late Warren Sims & Lenora (Carmichael) Crider. Jewel graduated from Hancock-Central High School in 1964 and later attended Purdue University. Her time as a cheerleader at Purdue University marked a period of great joy for her. Jewel's love for her team was only matched by her love for her family, with whom she cherished spending time, especially her grandkids. Those who knew Jewel will remember her as a woman of many talents. Her hands were rarely still, always busy sewing, cooking, or baking. Her kitchen was a haven of delicious aromas and warmth. Jewel's love for the outdoors was evident in her enthusiasm for boating and camping, activities that brought her closer to nature and to the people she loved. A true hot rod fanatic, Jewel's need for speed echoed her zest for life. She was a jack of all trades, and her ability to fix just about anything was a testament to her resourcefulness and skill. Above all, Jewel was a loving mother and grandmother, her family was the cornerstone of her life. She lived life to the fullest, a has left her family with a lasting legacy of love. Jewel is survived by her children, Jeffery (Sheryl) Hudson; Michelle (Theodore) Funk; Angela (Amy Ritchhart) Groover; sisters, Malinda Sides; and Nancy Elsbury; eight-grandchildren, Derrick Hudson, Megan Hudson (Terry Daw) Rachelle Roeder, Christian Coombs (Ashley Johnson) Victoria Coombs (Logan Ellison) Skyler Tincher (Haley Mills) Preston Groover (Madelyn Hilligoss) Royce Funk (Alicia); 12 great-grandchildren, Cooper, Maverick, Nova, Lilli, Landon, Bentley, Brooklyn, Blakeleigh, Brileigh, Paislee, Lincoln, Kora; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jewel is preceded in death by her parents mentioned above, grandson, Zackery Groover; brother-in-law’s: Charles Sides & Gordon Elsbury; and stepfather: Wayne Crider. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484. W. US 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Inurnment will follow the service at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
