Jay L. Wortman

MORRISTOWN – Jay L. Wortman, age 60, of Morristown, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Franciscan St. Francis Health. He was born on March 4, 1954 in Greenfield as the son of James Robert “Bob” and Sue A. (Myer) Wortman. He graduated from Morristown High School in 1972. Jay married Debbie S. (Crosby) on July 27, 1991 in Nashville, TN. He was the owner and president of J.R. Wortman Company in Morristown for 42 years. He also worked for Fountaintown Gas for many years. Mr. Wortman was a member of the Morristown Masonic Lodge #193 and was a 32nd Degree Mason, Heating and Air Conditioning Alliance of Indiana, and president of Shelby County Building Committee. He was also a member of the Morristown United Methodist Church. He was a dedicated fan of the I.U. Hoosiers, Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers and enjoyed Indy Cars. Jay is survived by his loving wife, Debbie of Morristown; sons, Jason L. Wortman of Indianapolis and Matthew J. (Whitney) Wortman of Morristown; daughters, Courtney A. Vogel of Indianapolis, Chastity A. Wilke of Fishers, and Michele Hibst of Shelbyville; sister, Lisa (Steve) Bridges of Morristown; parents, James Robert “Bob” and Sue A. (Myer) Wortman; grandmother, Velma Wortman; six grandchildren, Colin, Jack, Cooper, Clayton, Lilly, and Landon; and loving Maude. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lyall Wortman; grandparents, Fred and Frances Myer; and brother, Jeffery Wortman. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Brookville Road Community Church, 7480 U.S. 52, New Palestine, IN 46163. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. also at the church with viewing one hour prior to the service. Pastor Hubert Nolen and Pastor Morris Jones will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be sent to Blue River Foundation, 54 W.
