Harry Tracy

GREENFIELD – Harry I. Tracy, age 93, of Greenfield, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021 at his home. He was born in Fountaintown on August 25, 1927 to Purnell Jefferson Tracy Sr. and Mabel (Enos) Tracy. He graduated from Morristown Jr. Sr. High School in 1945 and attended trade school at Howe High School to become a machinist. He served in the United States Navy. He married V. Imogene (Wooldridge) Tracy on June 15, 1947 at Gwynneville Christian Church. Harry worked at Eli Lilly as a machinist for 25 years and worked at Wal Mart for 17 years. He was a member of the Lions Club, Riley Festival Board, and Riley Home and was a Hancock County Farmer’s Market Master. He was involved in Hancock County’s 4-H program for over 60 years. Harry enjoyed building things, watching NASCAR, basketball, and football, and spending time with family and friends. He and his wife, Imogene, also hosted up to 47 foreign exchange students. He also spent 47 years volunteering and counseling at the Shakamak 4-H camp. He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Jenkins (Bradley) and Laura Jo Tracy (adopted daughter, Nina Stotler); sister, Zona Tracy Lee; grandchildren, Traci Murray (Vernon), Tina Honaker (Paul Niedenthall), Shawn Jenkins (Gerilee), Robert Jenkins (Wendi) and Tara Williams (Jim); 15 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, V. Imogene (Wooldridge) Tracy; parents, Purnell and Mabel; daughter, Carolyn Barksdale; and grandson, Brian Jenkins. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. also at the mortuary with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Fred Girdwood will be officiating. Entombment will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown. Military rites will be presented by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Navy.
