George Milne

GREENFIELD – George R.A. Milne, age 87, of Greenfield, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Springhurst Health Campus. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 10, 1936 to James Milne and Elizabeth (Pedur) Milne. He graduated from St. Joe Prepartory High School in Bardstown, Kentucky. Following high school, he served as a drill sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On March 20, 1982, George married Mary Ruth (Renschler) in Indianapolis. He was recognized for his excellence as the vice president purchasing at the Delta Faucet Company, a manufacturer of plumbing fixtures and materials. In this capacity, he exhibited proved expertise in product knowledge and leadership, and provided direct oversight for several employees within his division. He joined Delta Faucet in 1970 as a purchasing agent in the plumbing products division, from which he rose to become a purchasing agent and divisional purchasing manager before attaining vice president of purchasing in 1988. Prior to his affiliation with Delta Faucet, he served in similar roles throughout retail industry, including as a manager of youth and recreational products at the Leisure Group Inc., a purchasing agent for Mascon Toy Co., and numerous roles at American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Corp., beginning in 1958. To remain aware of development in the field, he had maintained his affiliation with such organizations as the American Copper Council, where he sat on the board of directors, and the Purchasing Management Association of Indianapolis. He was also a member of the National Association of Purchasing Management, where he served as president from 1982 to 1983 and was hailed as Man of the Year in 1975. Before embarking upon his professional journey, he served as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1958. Following this period, he completed coursework at the University of Cincinnati from 1959 to 1962 and later achieved a Bachelor of Science in Business and Commerce at the University of Louisville in 1963. He also attended the University of Wisconsin, the University of Texas, the City College of New York and Case Western Reserve University, where he received various certifications in purchasing and economics. Outside of his primary vocation, he was a member of the National Alliance of Businessmen and a board director for the Young Men’s Christian Association. Well-regarded for his accomplishments, he had contributed several articles on his area of expertise to professional journals and has been appointed on two occasions as a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Julian Carroll in 1976 and Governor John Y. Brown in 1983. During his retirement, George enjoyed working the booth at the Riley Emporium Antique Store in Greenfield and collecting stamps. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Mary Ruth Milne of Greenfield; children, James Milne (Lisa) of Ramona, CA, Marcia Beaulieu of Greenfield and Rick Jenkins of Carmel; grandchildren, James, Jacob, Alisa and Leah; sisters, Susan Schmidt of Cincinnati, OH and Barbara Green of Niles, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elizabeth; son, John Milne; and stepson, Tom Jenkins. Visitation and funeral service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140.
