Gary W. George

GREENFIELD – Gary W. George, age 68, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the Ellison House. Born on December 4, 1941 in Russell Springs, KY, he was the son of Tobias and Clarice (Brown) George. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1960, and married Malinda (Brinkman) George on September 28, 1991. Gary started his career with Home News Enterprises at The Evening Republican in Columbus, IN on November 14, 1960. His first job was in the “hot metal” process area proofing galleys of type from linotype machines. Gary transferred to The Daily Reporter on October 1, 1979 and retired from there on February 6, 2004. During his forty plus years with Home News Enterprises, Gary held many positions including Composing Manager, Production Manager, Production Director, Building and Production Administrative Manager and Administrative Manager. Gary was a Gideon for many years and was also a member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church. He enjoyed walking, golf, and nature. He loved his wife, sister, children, and grandchildren with all of his heart. Surviving him are his wife, Malinda George of Greenfield; sons, Mike (Cindy) George of Columbus, IN, Steve (Amy) George of North Vernon, IN, John (Candi) George of Columbus, IN; daughters, Barri (Gary) Grieger of Columbus, IN, Angela (Anthony) Trice of Greenfield, Madelynn George of Indianapolis; sister, Pandora (Bob) Eads of Missouri; nephews, Brian Brown of Greenwood, IN, and David Eads of Columbus, IN; niece, Amy Bird of Madison, IN; aunts, Wanda Johnson and Nola Richards of Columbus, IN, Jan (Oran) Foley of Russell Springs, KY; twelve grandchildren, and many cousins. Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at 12:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield, with viewing beginning two hours prior to the service. Pastor Hugh Severence will be officiating. Burial will be at Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Regional Hospice Fund at 801 North State Street, Greenfield, Indiana 46140 or to the Alzheimer’s Association at 50 E. 91st Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
