Christy Lee Hamlin

INDIANAPOLIS – Christy Lee (Weatherford) Hamlin, age 78, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at Community Hospital North. She was born in Indianapolis on June 1, 1942, to Nile A. and Catherine E. (Engelking) Weatherford. She graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis and received her associate of science degree in nursing from IUPUI/Purdue University. Christy married William “Dan” Hamlin on December 1, 1972, in Indianapolis. Christy resided in New Palestine, Ind. for 16 years and Greenfield, Ind. for five years. Christy was a registered nurse and the head of pediatrics at Community Hospital East for 20 years before retiring from nursing in the early 1980s. She continued to work in other fields including as a realtor, surveying nursing homes for the State of Indiana and in medical benefits claims before retiring in 1999. Christy was a member of the New Palestine Homemakers Club, a monthly Card Club and she was a Brownie Troop Leader in the early 1980s. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting and cross stitching. Christy liked going to musicals, concerts and spending time with her family and friends. She was a big Indianapolis Colts fan. Christy is survived by her daughter, Laura (Hamlin) Douthitt, and son-in-law, Lee, of Fishers; grandson, Austin W. Douthitt of Fishers; and cousins, nieces, a nephew and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nile and Catherine Weatherford; husband, William “Dan” Hamlin; brother, David A. Weatherford; and sister, Kathy J. Weatherford. A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A nurses honor service will be presented by the nurses honor service team. Inurnment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Indianapolis. As a reminder, masks are required in public indoor spaces as of July 27, 2020.
