Rex Lane Schmidt

ELWOOD – Rex Lane Schmidt, age 59, of Elwood, Indiana, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born on July 4, 1954 in Greenfield, son of John H. and Vivienne Marcelle (Lane) Schmidt. He graduated from Morristown High School in 1972. He married Cheryl Christine (Van Hoorde) on December 31, 1993 at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Indianapolis. He worked for Schmidt Sales and Service, a family owned business, selling tractors and farming equipment. He also worked as a car salesman for many years. Most recently he was working at Kroger in Carmel. Mr. Schmidt was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Trinity Park United Methodist Church. He enjoyed watching TV and movies, the History Channel, spending time with his dog June Bug and cat Max, camping in Kentucky and going to Mammoth Cave, and spending time with his family all together. Rex is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Schmidt of Elwood; children, Bobby Arney of Indianapolis, Teresa (Christopher) Whiteley of Winchester, Kentucky, Carl (Chasity) Schmidt of Fayetteville, North Carolina, David Arney of Avon, Indiana, John (Michelle) Schmidt of Noblesville, Christina (William) Tunink of Cornell, Illinois, and Andrea Schmidt of Westfield; sister, Inez (Bill) Prather of Longmont, Colorado; sister-in-law, Vickie Schmidt; cousin, Cindy Schmidt; and fourteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Vivienne Marcelle (Lane) Schmidt; brother, Jay Schmidt; infant brother, Wilson Howard Schmidt. Visitation will be on Friday, April 18, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Park United Methodist. Pastor Mike Manning will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
