Rex N. Chapple

GREENFIELD – Rex N. Chapple, age 88, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born on July 11, 1929 in Hancock County as the son of Julius and Hilda (Glascock) Chapple. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1949. Rex served in the Air Force from 1951-1955. He married Martha M. (Cole) on December 16, 1950 in Greenfield. He worked for Allison Transmission as an engineering technician and retired as a senior engineering associate in 1992, after 29 years with the company. He was a past member of Trinity Park United Methodist Church and past member of Morristown Legion. He bowled in several leagues at Greenfield Lanes, Morristown Lanes, and Strike Force Lanes. Rex enjoyed going to The Barn and dancing. He enjoyed square dancing with his wife with the Riley Wranglers and watching old westerns. He most of all loved spending time with his family and especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rex is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Joey) Lee of Greenfield; sisters, Sandy (Howard) Phelps of Beech Grove and Jean (Bob) Strahl of Greenfield; grandchildren, Jason (Chelsea) Nulliner, Jamie (Jacob) Richmond and David (Jessica) Nulliner; great-grandchildren, James, Austin, Lucas, Gavin, Hunter, Madison, Tara and Josiah; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Hilda Chapple; wife, Martha Chapple; and sister, Sarah “Sue” Strubbe. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Rev. Mike Manning will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield with military rites presented by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard.
