Mary A. Lenning

MORRISTOWN – Mary A. (Goble) Lenning, age 87, of Morristown, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 at Walker Place in Shelbyville. She was born in Freeport, Indiana on April 10, 1933 to William and Bertha “Erna” (Balting) Goble. Mary graduated from Morristown High School and married Walter Lenning on November 17, 1956. Mary worked for Shelby Eastern Schools for 10 years as their Secretary. She went on to work at Kroger for 11 years as a Produce Hostess. Mrs. Lenning was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of American Legion #102. She was also an active member of Morristown United Methodist Church. Mary enjoyed spending her free time with her family. She particularly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom she was lovingly known as Nannie, Grandma and GiGi. Mrs. Lenning also enjoyed attending the Seniors Luncheon on Wednesdays, going to her hair appointments, and shopping. She was a social butterfly everywhere she went. Mary is survived by her son, Gregory Alan Lenning of Southport; daughters, Lisa Ann Gumberts, and husband Scott, of Morristown, Lori Lee Cowen of Morgantown, and Linda Sue Leisure, and husband Bruce, of Morristown; eight grandchildren, Stacey Brattain, Justin Lenning, Ashley McNeely, Mariah Theobald, Morgan Eads, Maressa West, Brooke Gumberts, Brayton Leisure, and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Eliza Goble. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertha “Erna” Goble; husband, Walter Lenning; brother, Paul Goble; sister, Dorothy Simpson; grandson, Dustin Cowen; and sons-in-law, Brad Eads and Gary Cowen. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. As a reminder, the government mandate requires guests to wear masks when inside our building. We are limited to a capacity of 50 guests in the building at a time and ask everyone to practice social distancing.
