Gene Valentine

FORTVILLE – Gene Valentine, age 94, of Fortville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Anderson, Indiana. He was born in Ingalls, Indiana on April 10, 1929 to Charles and Esther (Clem) Valentine. Corporal Valentine proudly served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Gene married the love of his life, Betty J. (Bland) Valentine on June 12, 1952 in Pendleton, Indiana and enjoyed over 70 years of marriage. He worked for General Motors for over 28 years in the Building Maintenance Department before retiring in 1988. Gene was a member of the American Legion in Fortville, Indiana, the United Auto Workers (UAW) local #663 organization and was a former member of the Idlewood Golf Course. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed working outside and golfing. Gene took great pride in his family and cherished the time he spent with them. He also had a love for animals, and you could often find him in the company of his dog, Jake. He is survived by his children, Rick (Susan) Valentine of Anderson, Indiana, Cynthia (Wilson) Conner of Fortville, Indiana, and Bryan (Kelly) Valentine of Port Orange, Florida; sister, Doris Ireton of New Castle, Indiana; twin sister, Irene (Norman) Davis of Anderson, Indiana; grandchildren, Lisa (Joe) Shetterly, Derrick (Kimberly) Valentine, Tyler (Paige) Haley, Jason Valentine, and Megan (Mike) Hitt; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Esther (Clem) Valentine; wife, Betty J. (Bland) Valentine; three sisters, Louise Mann, Mary Cheshier, and Betty Kellam; and three brothers, Hubert, Carl, and Jim Valentine. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Gravel Lawn Cemetery Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel following the visitation. Pastor Tyler Haley will be officiating. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville, Indiana with military honors from the Fortville American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the Real Community Church of God, 528 N. Meridian St, Ingalls, Indiana 46048 or the Autism Society of Indiana, 10255 Commerce Drive Suite 164, Carmel, IN 46032. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at the chapel.
