GREENFIELD – Lyman E. Couch, age 85, of Greenfield, passed unto his Lord on January 12, 2021, after an extended illness. Lyman was born on June 5, 1935 near Maxwell, Indiana. He was one of eleven children born to Norman M. and Hattie J. (Huddleston) Couch. He was a lifelong resident of Hancock County. He married his friend, partner, and love of his life, Jo Ann (Dove) Couch on September 29, 1953. They were married for 67 years and raised four children. Jo Ann survives and resides in Greenfield. Lyman was a Millwright at International Harvester for over 35 years. He was inducted into the Red Cross Hall of Fame in 1977 for helping to save a man’s life in a foundry accident. He was a founding member along with his brother Bill Couch of the Greenfield Police Department’s reserve unit. Lyman also served as the reserve’s commander, and dedicated 25 years of voluntary service to the city of Greenfield. He was the owner of L. Couch Trucking for over 25 years and drove that entire time without a single traffic accident. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and country music, especially George Jones. Lyman was a man of faith and was a proud and loyal member of Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield. His church friends have been very supportive and helpful through-out his illness. A soft-spoken man, honest, and sincere. His word was his bond. A look you in the eye type of man. He was always there to help in any way he could. Lyman will be sorely missed by all who came into his life, especially his family. May he now receive the rewards for a life well lived.
