GREENFIELD – Leona Opal (Rogers) Ponder, age 87, of Greenfield since 1970, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born in Eufaula, Oklahoma to Charlie and Mary Elizabeth (Matthews) Rogers. Leona married Albert L. Ponder on December 22, 1949 in Salinas, California. Leona was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended the Greenfield Congregation since 1970. She was an incredible cook, known especially for her pie baking and strawberry shortcakes. Leona enjoyed flower gardening and sewing. Her pride and joy were her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leona is survived by her children, Carol (Ralph) Jenks of Moscow, Idaho, Kay Craney of Greenfield, and Tony (Kim) Ponder of Anderson; 10 grandchildren, Kim, Steve, Sam, Jonathan, Simon, Alan, Katie, Kayla, D.J., and Shelby; 12 great-grandchildren, Alexa, Erin, Dayza, Chris, Dylan, Hayden, Ethan, Haylee, Elise, Ava, Jacie, and Jolie; and sister, Bessie Hogue of Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mary Rogers; husband, Albert Ponder; and siblings, Alvis, Wilburn, Ralph, Robert, Elzie, Clara, Naomi, and David. A private graveside service will be held at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2783 S. St. Rd. 9, Greenfield, IN 46140. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made online to Jehovah’s Witnesses at jw.org.
