Herb Jewell

NEW PALESTINE – Herbert B. Jewell, known to most as Herb, age 74, of New Palestine, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born in Linton, Indiana on April 17, 1948 to Hattie (Stough) and Roy Jewell. He was a 1966 graduate from Warren Central High School and received his associates degree from Ivy Tech. On September 2, 1967, Herb married Judie “Faye” Shrum in Indianapolis. Before retiring in 2021, he worked for Allison Transmission as a millwright for 55 years. Herb was a member of the Local UAW #933 and the Friends & Retiree’s Camping Club from Allison Transmission. In his younger years, he attended Burge Terrace Baptist Church where he was saved. He enjoyed golfing, camping with family and working on classic cars with his son. Herb also played the guitar and had a passion for music. He cherished time spent with his family and friends. Herb is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Faye Jewell of New Palestine; children, Anessa Gross (Jon) of Greenfield and Chad Jewell (Brandy) of New Palestine; grandchildren, Haley (Tyler), Wes, Ian, and Macy; great-grandsons, Eli and Quenton; and siblings, Joanna Nelson (Jerald) of Texas, Robert Jewell (Helen) of New Palestine, Sarah Franke (Steve) of Indianapolis, and Cathy Dunham (Floyd) of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Susan K. Jewell; and brother, Ronald E. Jewell. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Brandon Lavy officiating. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery.
