Dear Karen and Family

by: The823Twins, 07/05/08

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Vern's passing.  He has been a great neighbor for many years.

We missed his obituary in the Reporter, or we would have paid our respects in person.

We will miss seeing him take the grandchildren for rides on a four-wheeler.

If there is anything we can do to help around the house, do not hesitate to ask.

We are so sorry for your loss.

Karen and family -

I have spoken to Mychele and just can't find the words to even express what emotions are going through me.  You have been my family as well since I was a little girl growing up with Mychele.  Vern will be missed by many and was a wonderful man.  If you need anything at all, please just let me know.

With Love,

Never To Be Forgotten

by: ClaudiaHudson, 06/29/08

I met Vernon when I was nine years old.  He was one of the nicest persons I've known.  He was a shy, smart, caring, and happy person.  We had a lot of fun as kids.  I remember he would always come by for me on the days we had off from school because of the large snow storms we had when were were young.  Because we would hook up the mud sled to the tractor and he would pull us over the snowy fields of corn stocks.  We would get warmed up and fed cocoa at my house and then move on to more fields to have fun in the snow.  Vernon would bring his scooter over for me to learn to ride down our long lane.  But, of course I wasn't a very good rider and he would have more patience with me, yet laugh all of the time.  Vernon was good at school but very secretive about his work and his results.  I also remember a cold wintry day when Vernon joined in with the Sheriff's department and some neighbors to help find a man that had been lost after getting out of his car near our farm during a snow storm while just trying to get home from work.  Vernon and I took long sticks to punch in the snow drifts to find this poor man.  We did this for hours and I really think it changed Vernon in some way so that his caring about others intensified over the years.

I realy enjoyed Vernon as a person and regret that we did not contact each other after our school years together.  I know that his family will miss him so much.

My thoughts and blessing are with you, Vernon's family.  You have to feel very happy and blessed that you had a chance to be with this kind man for the time you had.

My prayers are with you,

Claudia M. Poulos Hudson

The Family of Vern Sanford

by: k9ydo, 06/28/08

The Sanford Family,

As an amateur radio operator and having known Vern for the past twenty years or more, I would like Vern's family to know that we amateur radio operators are feeling the tremendous loss of a fine member of our fraternity. Vern's technical skills both in his employment and with our hobby will be greatly missed, his can do attitude with anything he was involved with, was a great quality to have. Knowing Vern was a great family man as well. I want to express my condolences and sympathy to all of you.

Kindest regards,

Bill Akin

To the family and friends of Vern Sanford:

The amateur community of Hancock County and Marion County will miss Vern.  All of those I have talked to feel a great sense of loss with the passing of Vern.  He was always available to help any of us with any amateur radio project, and was considered a great friend.  Vern was one in thousands when it came to representing amateur radio and the qualities of a gentlemen.

Like many, if I can be of any assistance to the family during this time, or in the future please do not hesitate to call.  Vern gave freely to so many, I feel strongly that I should do likewise at this time.

My best wishes to the entire family.  Vern's voice will be deeply missed on the amateur radio frequencies.

Regards (73)

If I know Vern I believe he would tell us the words that fit this song.

When I die, don't cry for me,
In my Father's arms I'll be,
The wounds this world left on my soul,
Will all be healed and I'll be whole.
Sun and moon will be replaced,
With the light of Jesus' face,
And I will not be ashamed,
For my Savior knows my name.

It don't matter where you bury me,
I'll be home and I'll be free.
It don't matter where I lay,
All my tears be washed away.

If God's communications system breaks down, I think I know who the lead tech will be.  Jerry W9FS
