NEW PALESTINE– Marvin E. Boring, age 86, passed away on February 12, 2009, at Lee Memorial Hospital, Ft. Myers, Florida. Born October 7, 1922, he was the son of Burl and Bessie (Miller) Boring.
He was a member of the Carrollton United Methodist Church for 77 years, where members of his family have worshiped for over 150 years. He graduated from Moral Township High School in Shelby County in 1942. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during the end of WWII from 1943 through 1945. As the war ended, he was being certified as a B17 pilot. He never lost his love of flying and was proud to pilot a plane on his 80th birthday. He was a member of the International Flying Farmers for over 50 years.
In 1948, he married Cecila L. (Boger) Boring, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
After returning from service, Marvin began farming in Shelby county and continued to do so until he retired. During that time, he served on the Shelby Eastern School board and was active in the community, selling real estate and also for a time selling fertilizer.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Cecila; son, Tim Boring; daughter, Kimberly (Boring) Halstead; son-in-law, Gregg W. Halstead; grandchildren, Brittany Fuchs and Lindsay Fuchs; step-grandchildren, Aubrey Hammond, Amanda Halstead, Alexa Halstead, and Gabriel Halstead; and great-grandson, Taylor Pope. He is also survived by his brother, Maurice Eugene Boring. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Denice Anne Boring; and a sister, Tabitha (Boring) Cooper.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 25, 2009, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at 10:00 a.m at the mortuary. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine.

We were so sorry to hear of Marvin's passing. We are also in Florida and won't be able to attend the funeral, but our thoughts and prayers are with you. We really enjoyed having Marvin as a neighbor and playing Euchre with both of you. Best wishes for your recovery also.
