Margaret Nelson (79)

Date of Birth: 08/12/1929
Date of Passing: 03/29/2009
Resided in: New Palestine, Indiana

NEW PALESTINE– Margaret Lucille (Eggers) Nelson, age 79, passed peacefully into the Lord’s presence on Sunday afternoon, March 29, 2009, at the home of her third daughter, Carol Watson, in Greenfield, IN, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Marge had been living with Carol and her supportive husband, Ken, since the week after Christmas 2008 to help coordinate her mother’s needs.

“Marge” as she was known by her friends and family, was born on August 12, 1929, in Lebanon, Wisconsin, to the late Rev. Theodore Albert and Elsa Louisa Hedwig (Kuerschner) Eggers.  She was the fourth of five children.  She grew up in Lebanon and Watertown, Wisconsin.  While in Watertown growing up, Marge lived on the campus of Bethesda Lutheran Homes & Services in which her father served as chaplain.  Marge attended Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, WI while earning her room and board with friends of the family by caring for their children before and after school.  After high school graduation, she attended nursing school at Arizona State University-Tempe (Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, AZ) and graduated with a B.S. in Nursing in 1951.  Marge served as a nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, and at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, IN.  During her nursing career while at both hospitals, Marge enjoyed participating in the RN Club.  Throughout Marge’s childhood, she was an avid softball player and while in AZ she played semi-pro softball.

Marge married John W. Nelson, farmer, banker, and life insurance salesman (deceased in 1986) from Arlington, Indiana, on September 19, 1954.  They lived in the Jeremiah Beckner Nelson home (built 1853) on U.S. 52 between Arlington and Gwynneville, Indiana until said home burned in 1974.  Afterwards, John and Marge built a new home on the same site.  Marge was a member of the Rushville, Indiana chapter of Psi Iota Xi.  She enjoyed remodeling the colonial home, flower and vegetable gardening, bowling, and serving in community projects.  She was very loving and diligent in caring for their six children.  In addition, for over twenty years, Marge successfully managed the family farm business, showing great resilience, compassion, and strength during many years of family illness.

Marge was also a very dedicated and active member of Zion Lutheran Church of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) in New Palestine, Indiana.  The Lord used Marge’s life in the establishment of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Rushville, IN where she was actively involved from 1972 until 1996 when she sold the family farm and moved to a country home in Greenfield, IN.  Marge attended her former church home of Zion Lutheran where she continued in regular church attendance, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) Circle, and Women’s Bible Study.  In 2006, Margaret began to fail in health and was moved with the assistance of her LCMS Deaconess missionary daughter, Christie to New Palestine, Indiana in order to be nearer her church friends and family.  Marge was a generous contributor to her church, world mission and Bible Translation organizations, and local, state, and national charities both public and private.  Marge was witty, determined, devout, faithful, persevering, loved and respected by all.

Marge is survived by her six children, Cynthia Kay (Douglas) Nurss of Keller, TX, Deaconess Christie A. So Sorry for your loss....

by: csebastian, 04/03/09

Dear Dr. Carol,

I received your letter thru the Juice Plus+ family and I felt drawn to read it, as I know what it feels like to lose a parent.  As I read your words, tears fell in abundance down my face.  What a beautiful, celebration of your mom!  As much as I miss my Dad, I too know that he is in a better place, and felt a sense of peace for him.

Your letter will touch so many that might be facing the same loss.  You are such a blessing to the whole organization with you amazing wisdom.  May God Bless you and your family at this difficult time.

Your Mom was a blessed woman

by: tsokol0810, 04/01/09

Carol and Family,

From everything I have heard and read I believed she was blessed. From her sharing of life and love with others, to its return to her at the time of her journey HOME to be with her Lord and Savior. I can not imagine a more BEAutiful sight than what you have described on VO. I am praying for your family's PEACE in knowing that you all had a large part in a wonderful life and a glorious HOME COMING.

Thinking of You

by: ritabingham, 04/01/09

Hi Carol,

I so enjoyed talking with you about our mothers when we met in the airport after the LB convention.  My mother passed away very peacefully, and I'm so thankful yours did too.

What an incredible blessing that God is so mindful of our needs and that He paved the way for all your family to be there with her.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thinking and Praying for You

by: boxcar1958, 04/01/09

Dear Carol,

Thank you for sharing with us your mother's last moments. What a blessing it was for the entire family to be there when she went to be with her Lord. Though she is in heaven and you can rejoice with her, I'm sure that you will miss her and feel sadness for that. I will be thinking of you and praying for the Lord to comfort you and give you peace.

The Nelson Legacy

by: rsteiner, 03/31/09

I have only but briefly met Mrs. Nelson twice (15 years ago and recently 2 months ago), but I see the Godly love through her daughter and my sister-in-law, Claire.

I witnessed her hospitality through her daughter Carol (and Ken) during my last visit.

She has children exemplifying her service to His kingdom through missionary work, and excellent Godly service in Christian schools.

Grandchildren, like my 2 nephews that want to be mature Christian young men carry traditions from having Godly grandparents and parents.

Christian legacies are not written by "pew sitters", but by doers of the word which is quite evident in her obituary.

"We can only imagine what heaven will be like", now Mrs. Nelson is there for eternity walking the streets of gold!

God Bless all family and friends as you celebrate the life of Mrs. Nelson.

The Peace of the Lord

by: Jhubbard, 03/31/09

Thank you for sharing the story of your Mom's moving on to be with the Lord. My Mom lived with us for the last two years of her life as a paralytic & your story reminded me of God's blessing to our family from her being with us. It truely is a bitter-sweet event. You are sad that she is no longer physically with you but at the same time you rejoice in the fact that she is renewed in & dwelling with the Lord. Again thank you for sharing your story,  for being the wonderful Godly woman that you are and espically for being my friend. May the wonderful peace of the Lord dwell in your heart and bring you comfort.

Blessings to you

by: lynorabayless, 03/31/09

Dear Carol and Family,

There's simply no good time to lose your mama and I know how much you'll miss her.  The story posted here about her was a beautiful testimony of a life well lived.  How truly blessed you have been which makes the loss all the more painful.  I know God will help you.  I will be praying that as time passes, you will be able to remember her in vibrant health, not the details of her departing.  She is at peace now in the arms of Jesus.  May God bless and keep you and your family.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Love to you,

If you have a moment; please do make comments...

by: drcarolwatson, 03/31/09

Dear friends and family,

I thank you all in advance for taking a moment to read about the heritage and legacy my mother left behind her for her children and her church.  And for those of you who know her, we would request that you would take additional time to sign in to the registry (creating a user account) and share a moment, a word, a thought or an experience that you had with mom in the past that touched you or had significant meaning to you.  We are collecting these thoughts as a family and I can't tell you how much it means for us to hear how mom's wisdom, strength and character touched your lives as well. We thank you in advance.

To my Juice Plus family, I would like to personally thank you in advance for all of your love and support and for taking time to checkout this obituary as well. Many of you who know me personally, know that my husband and I sold our home in Florida and built a home here in Indiana for the express purpose of being here when the time came that my mother would need me full-time.  We are  so blessed and honored to have been able to be a part of a home-based business that afforded us the luxury of living in a location of our choosing so that we could serve my mother in this capacity.  And a big thank you to our team in Florida who supported us and "allowed" us to go be where we needed to be.

Mom passed so beautifully and peacefully with all her children at her side and she went very quickly...a matter of only 4 days in a steady decline but she never suffered even up until her last breath...this was her wish and the prayer of her children for the last couple of years as we knew she was facing lung cancer with the decision for no treatment as she was ready to go home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Thank you in advance to all family and friends in advance for your loving support during this bitter-sweet time for me (us).

Warmly, Carol Nelson Watson

Blessings on your graduation!

by: rpulley, 03/31/09

Dear Carol & Ken,

With loving thought and prayers for you and your family.  It is truly a joyous "graduation" when your loved ones get to graduate from this life and begin a life with our Lord and Savior.

Richard Bach, who wrote Jonathan Livingston Seagull said:

"Do not be dismayed at parting, a parting is necessary before we can meet again and meeting again if certain for those who are  (loved ones) friends."

I know the peace and joy of many happy memories will be a tremendous comfort for you in the coming days.  I also know of the happiness you are feeling with your decision for being there in Indiana for your Mom.  You are so blessed to have had that time with her and being able to say goodbye as an entire family.

Bless you, Carol, for sharing the beautiful message of the passing "graduation" of your mom.    Loves and Hugs, Robin Pulley
