GREENFIELD- James Edwin Carlton, age 77, passed away on March 2, 2009 at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. Born on January 31, 1932, he was the son of Emmett and Ara (Bullock) Carlton. James worked for Ford Motor Company as an Oiler for 30 years before retiring in 1987. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, UAW Local #1111, and the NRA. He was also an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish.
Surviving him are his children, Edwin David (Peggy) Carlton of Arlington, Ricky (Janice) Carlton of Fishers, and Cindy (Mike) Richards of Kokomo; sister, Mildred McQuarter of Somerset, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Jearomy (Amiee) Carlton, and Faith and Zachary Richards; three great-grandchildren, Devan, Dakota, and McKenna; and a step-grandson, Michael Anderson. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 4, 2009, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
