GREENFIELD– Brother James Crawford Hobbs, age 83, went home to be with Jesus on March 4, 2009. Born on May 5, 1925, he was the son of Hervie and Tennie (Wanamaker) Hobbs. He worked for International Truck and Engine as a machine operator for over thirty-three years before retiring in 1988. James married Katie I. Grimes on April 5, 1953, in Rossville, Georgia.
Mr. Hobbs was an ordained minister who was very involved with his church. He attended the Trinity Full Gospel Tabernacle in New Castle. He was also a patriarch of Central Indiana Pentecostal churches. He was a great storyteller who was often found whistling. An outdoorsman, Mr. Hobbs loved farming, hunting, and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving him are his wife, Katie Hobbs of Greenfield; children, James David (Dottie) Hobbs of Plainfield, Wanda I. (Dave) Wright of Greenfield, Teresa (Stanley) Nunley of Shelbyville, and Lonnie W. (Audrey) Hobbs of Greenfield; brother, Clarence (Florence) Hobbs of Beech Grove; seventeen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Felson Hobbs and H.T. Hobbs; and two sisters, Maxine Bouldin and Geneva Britton.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 8, 2009, from 12:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 9, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield
