GREENFIELD – Herbert F. Murray, age 84, died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Regency Place in Greenfield. Born on February 20, 1925 in Baywood, Virginia, he was the son of Charles and Ruth (Anders) Murray. Mr. Murray graduated from Spiceland High School in 1943. He married Gladys (Greer) Murray on May 23, 1947 in New Castle, Indiana.
He owned Herb Murray Bonding Agency in Indianapolis, was a health inspector for the City of New Castle and was a special deputy in New Castle. Mr. Murray was a member of Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene for 45 years. He was a Kentucky Colonel, involved in politics in New Castle, and served in the Navy during World War II.
Surviving him are his spouse, Gladys Greer Murray of Greenfield; daughters, Cheryl Schisler of Greenfield, Susan (Kirby) Popplewell of Indianapolis, Judy (Bill) Foulke of New Castle, Valerie Murray of Greenfield, Candi (Bill) Burdine of Greenfield; brothers, Jim (Phyllis) Murray of New Castle, Ron (Nancy) Murray of Shirley; sister-in-law, Mildred LaSota of Bloomington; grandchildren, Jeremy Schisler, Jaime Mersch, Michele Elliott, Charles Hollandbeck, Stephanie Hollandbeck, Michael Foulke, Jacob Foulke, Trey Burdine, and Carsyn Burdine; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Donald Murray; in-laws, Philip and Mainie Greer; and son-in-law, Jerry Schisler.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 22, 2009, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 23, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at First Church of the Nazarene in Indianapolis, with additional viewing for one hour prior to the service. Pastors Michael Morris, Don Freese, and Kirby Popplewell will be officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery in New Castle, Indiana.

We are so sad to learn of Herb's passing.
Your husband/father was such a kind man. Knowing your whole family through church, and knowing how much he loved God will keep you all strong. He loved his family and was so proud to be Grandpa to his grandchildren.
