GREENFIELD – George W. Ragan, age 84, of Greenfield, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. Born on June 4, 1924 in Clarksville, Tennessee, he was the son of George W. Ragan, Sr. and Ethel (Baggett) Ragan. He married Christine Mann-Ragan on November 25, 2000.
Mr. Ragan was a lightman crew leader for Indianapolis Power and Light for 40 years before retiring in 1986. He was a founder and 62-year member of the American Legion in Clarksville, Tennessee. He had served in the U.S Army during World War II as a tank crewman in the European theatre.
Surviving him are his wife, Christine Mann-Ragan of Greenfield; sons, Charles Ragan of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and Billy Ragan of Indianapolis; daughter, Betty Driesbach of Greenfield; step-son, Jerry (Sharon) Mann of Wilkinson; step-daughters, Pamela (David) Cavaletto and Patty (Bob) Simpson, both of Greenfield; sister, Jean Whitlock of Indianapolis; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 10, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 11, at 10:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Entombment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
