Carmel – John Howard Erwin, age 84, passed to his heavenly home on March 10, 2010. He was surrounded by his family in his home as he had always wished. Born on September 19, 1925, in Powellton, West Virginia, he was the son of Walter Scott Erwin and Floda Mae (Casto) Erwin. He married Icie (Cantley) Erwin on November 27, 1948 in Greenup, Kentucky. He worked for International Harvester for 30 years before retiring. Mr. Erwin was a member of UAW, an avid Colts fan and loved fishing. Surviving him are his wife, Icie (Cantley) Erwin of Carmel; children, Anita (Wayne) Adkins of Carmel, Dewey (Karla) Erwin of Indianapolis, Deborah (Carl) Lau of Carmel, and Roger (Faire Elizabeth) Erwin of Greenwood; brother, Keenan Erwin of Naoma, West Virginia; sister, Edna (Stan) Papciak of Tonowanda, New York; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey and Ryan Adkins, Christina Manship, Linda Schnaedter, Jennifer Wolfe, Bryan Chandler, Nathan Erwin, nine great-grandchildren, Felicia, Emilia, Eleanor, Stephen, Savannah, Lily, Kaitlyn, Natalie, and Bethany; two step-grandchildren Carleen Coy and Alex Lau; and two step great-grandchildren, A.J. and Wyatt Coy. Preceding him in death are his parents, Walter and Floda Mae Erwin; sisters, Colleen Sturgill and Ollie Mae Cook; and brothers, Walter June Erwin, Wiley Erwin and Harvey Erwin.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 12, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary, 1484 West U.S. 40, (Corner of 150 W. and U.S. 40) in Greenfield. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Pastor Jonathan Manship will be officiating. Burial will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown. There will be a meal served for family and friends at Erlewein Mortuary following the burial service.
