INDIANAPOLIS – Gordon L. Ballenger, age 83, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, March 14, 2008 at Manor Care at Summer Trace in Carmel.  He was born on October 24, 1924.  Mr. Ballenger married Beulah (Wilkison) Ballenger in Indianapolis on November 8, 1961.  He was a maintenance supervisor for the Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis for 32 years before retiring on January 3, 1989.  During World War II, Mr. Ballenger served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper and in the 131st Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion from 1943-1950.  He is survived by his step-daughter, Carol (Jerry) Gimple of New Palestine; granddaughters, Sherry (Rob) Campbell of Carmel and Shelley (Todd) Hubbard of Fortville; and great grandchildren, Trey Hubbard, Jovey Hubbard, and William Campbell.  Preceding him in death were his wife, Beulah Ballenger; parents; and two sisters.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 18, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield.  Graveside services with full military honors will follow at Oaklandon Cemetery in Oaklandon.  Reverend John Kixmiller will officiate.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6030 W. 62nd Street, Indianapolis, IN 46278, or to New Palestine Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 4053 S 650 W, New Palestine, IN 46163.  Friends may sign the on-line guestbook at www.erleweinmortuary.com or email condolences to sympathy@erleweinmortuary.com.
