GREENFIELD– Eldon H. Engle, age 78, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at Hancock Regional Hospital.  Born on August 3, 1930, in Lincoln, Nebraska, he was the son of Eldon B. and Alpha H. (Hudson) Engle.  Mr. Engle graduated from Northeast high school in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He went on to graduate from the Indiana School of Music at IU and received his Masters degree in education from George Mason University.  He married Helga S. Striebel on January 9, 1960 in Porto Alegre, Brazil. 

Eldon worked as a teacher and band director in the Fairfax County school system in Virginia.  He was also the Director of the Bi-National Center in Porto Alegre, Brazil.  Mr. Engle was a former member of the Washington Sangerbund, a former member of the Lions Club in Vienna, Virginia, and a current member of the Lion’s Club in Greenfield, Indiana. 

Surviving him are his wife, Helga; son, Douglas S. Engle of Vienna, Virginia; daughter, Anna M. (David) Barnes of McCordsville; sister, Janette Kremer of West Lafayette; several nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren, Clayton and Austin.  Preceding him in death were his parents, Eldon and Alpha Engle; and brother, Sam Engle. 

Visitation will be Friday, November 21, 2008 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield.  Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation for one hour prior.  Pastor Paul Enyart will be officiating.
