GREENFIELD– Gary Byron Hanes, age 63, died April 21, 2008 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis.  Born on December 21, 1944 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Byron Leroy and Esther Lorene (Bade) Hanes Rumbaugh.  He graduated from Arlington High School in 1963 and married Kathleen (Mullen) Hanes on November 13, 1965.  Mr. Hanes worked as a plumbing estimator for 42 years, most recently at Downton and West in Indianapolis.  He was a member of Local 440 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Fortville Christian Church, and a former member of the National Guard.  Gary loved stamps, coin collecting, vacation, the beach, and especially his grandkids and their sporting events.  He loved racing and was a big fan of A.J. Foyt and Dale Earnhardt.  He also loved the Boston Red Sox.  Surviving him are his wife, Kathy Hanes of Greenfield; sons, Mike Hanes of Greenfield and Mark (Jenny) Hanes of Fortville; brother, David Hanes of Noblesville; sisters, Judy Rumbaugh of Morgantown and Kathy Clover of Scottsburg; granddaughters, Shelby and Brooke Hanes; and many nieces and nephews.  Preceding him in death were his parents, Byron and Esther Hanes; and brother, Dan Hanes.  Visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2008, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield.  Funeral services will be on Friday, April 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary with Pastor Tom McGilliard officiating.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 115 W.
