GREENFIELD– Sarah M. Reese, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at her home in Greenfield. Born on August 14, 1925, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, she was the daughter of George and Grace (Smith) Sleeper. Sarah married Charles Harold Reese, an army veteran who was one of the first men to land on Omaha Beach in WWII. Mr. Reese passed away on December 23, 1982.
She was self employed as a seamstress for many years and was known as “Rosie the Rivitter” during WWII when she had helped build Bombers. Sarah was a Baptist Church member, a member of the Dorcas Ladies, and an Assistant leader in the Girl Scouts.
She is survived by her sons, Jack Reese of Colorado and John Michael (Debbie) Reese of Washington; daughters, Lynn Reese of Indianapolis and Angela (Frank) Judy of Greenfield; sister, Beverly Hall of Sun City, CA; and many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Grace Sleeper; husband, Charles Harold Reese; and son, David Reese.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at 12:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Whittier, California.
