Dick was born in Marion County to Edward and Stellia Basey. He graduated from Morristown High School in 1951 and studied Accounting and Payroll at Indiana Business College. He married Delores A. (Hewitt) Basey on November 26, 1953. Together, they have three children - Shannon (Basey) Jenks, Marva (Basey) Veach, and Tamara (Basey) Wilson - and seven grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate on the U.S.S. Baltimore from 1951-1955. Dick was employed as an Estimator for Hamilton Displays in Indianapolis for 41 years before retiring in 1998. He has worked as an Assistant to the Funeral Directors at Erlewein Mortuary since 1996. Dick is very involved in the community. He is Past Master of the Morristown Masonic Lodge, Past Patron of the Morristown Eastern Star, and a member of the Morristown American Legion. Dick has also been a member of the Fountaintown United Methodist Church for over 60 years, where he taught Adult Sunday School from 1958-2001. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the Fountaintown Volunteer Fire Department for many years and is currently on the Board of Directors for the Fountaintown Cemetery Association. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, woodworking, and being a Master Gardener.
